Rebuild / New Construction

Set atop a hill, this house overlooks all of Silver City and the beautiful surrounding area. The original house had been added onto several times through the years and almost looked like three small dwellings stuck together, each with a different roofline and profile. The owners' original goals were to remodel and enlarge the kitchen and dining areas while addressing drainage issues that were compromising the existing concrete slab. During the design process, however, the owners became very involved and enthusiastic about other possibilities as well. Eventuallly they decided to tear down most of the original structure in order to create their dream house.

They wanted the design and floorplan to reflect the western ranch influences of the Southwest but to feel open and contemporary at the same time. Some of the design elements we used to achieve this goal were:
Large energy efficient windows and full-glass doors throughout
8" rough post and beam wraparound porch with cactus pine ceiling and stained concrete floor
Metal roof with traditional cupola atop
Open fireplace separating the living room from kitchen/dining areas
Quarter-sawn solid wide plank oak flooring
Free-standing bathtub in addition to large walk-in shower
